USS Liberty Veterans Create Grass Roots Campaign

I cannot help but be struck by the irony of initiating this blog on Veterans Day, 2008 -- a day our country sets aside to honor our country's veterans. All of its veterans except the survivors of the June 8, 1967 attack on the USS Liberty, that is.

Find that claim troubling, bordering on outrageous? We do.

Invite your Congressional Delegation to send a representative to a ceremony honoring the crew of the USS Liberty and see how many actually attend. I have. The answer is none.

Invite your Congressional Delegation to send a representative to address a group of veterans on the subject of the US government?s handling of the attack on our ship. I have. They will refuse the offer.

This blog in conjunction with our sister site at http://www.usslibertyveterans.org is our attempt to create a grass-roots campaign to convince the US government that an attack on a US Navy ship that includes the jamming of our radios on both US Navy tactical and international maritime distress frequencies and the deliberate machine gunning of our life rafts in the water is worthy of Congressional scrutiny.

The attack began about 2:04pm. Aircraft launched from Sixth Fleet aircraft carriers almost immediately after the attack began were recalled before they reached the horizon. This relegated the Sixth Fleet to the role of spectator as we continued calling for help. The torpedo struck us at 2:53pm.

The US government abandoned us while we were under fire.

The US government has never conducted an investigation of the attack on the USS Liberty.

We are hoping with this blog and the USS Liberty Veterans website to provide a means for ordinary people such as you to help us create a grass-roots campaign to convince the US government to investigate the attack on the USS Liberty. Please visit the website and join us in our efforts.
